Who We Are

P'unk Avenue solves problems and explores new opportunities for people and organizations making a positive social impact in fields like urbanism, health & wellness, arts & culture, education, and the environment. It is our goal to work on projects that empower people, improve quality of life, support the creation of knowledge, and strengthen our cities.

We are a small company with a large impact. We are writers, educators, engineers, developers, designers, and leaders. Our attentive care for and direct collaboration with our clients has led to opportunities for innovation and creativity. We are expanding our team to handle an influx of new projects, all while continuously experimenting with our team structure and evolving our design and development practices. We need people who thrive in this kind of dynamic and intense environment.

What You Will Be Doing

The Creative Director is responsible for the oversight and support of the creative team—our designers, brand strategists, and copywriters.

This includes resource management, project support, individual support, personal growth and career pathway opportunities for individuals, quality assurance of output of work, and leading the setting of team and personal goals. The Creative Director leads the creative team in developing original creative concepts, approaches, and strategies to drive collaborative efforts. Additionally, decisions made by the Creative Director are with the company’s values and interests in mind. It is the Creative Director’s responsibility to ensure that the right people are doing the right things in the right ways, in order to execute the best quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team in the creation of creative concepts across all projects—from strategy, to brand, to digital.

  • Help to steer projects by considering client needs, bringing clarity to the strategic direction our team is taking, listening to and helping to solve team needs, providing foundational vision, and ensuring studio expectations in terms of quality of work.

  • Elevate creative work through review, feedback and work sessions and push the creative solutions with a sensitivity towards project needs, teams abilities and portfolio opportunities.

  • Provide hands-on support to the team for challenging and sensitive projects, demonstrating and modeling your commitment to them and the project.
Help to craft distinct and original voices and identities for brands and all their parts.

  • As needed, participate in collaboration on deliverables such as strategy documents, wireframes, site design, style guides, brand directions, and brand guidelines

  • Develop a team structure that supports the level and type of work both current and incoming to the agency.

  • Lead hiring processes for additions to the creative team with support of CCO.
Assistance in scoping the SOW for projects

  • Work closely with the project management team (as well as leadership from other practices) to align the resource availability of the creative team with the schedule of upcoming projects. Recommend and approve the use of outside vendors, 3rd parties, and freelancers when necessary

  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship for the creative team, specifically, in the format of 1:1s, giving regular feedback, and conducting annual reviews.

  • Oversee the onboarding process of new members of the creative team.
Alongside the CCO, evolve and evaluate creative services, processes, and offerings.

  • When relevant, participate in pitches and other New Business efforts.

What We'd Like To See

  • A love for people and a passion for coaching and mentorship, paired with a knack for listening and an addiction to learning.

  • The ability to coach and transform a diverse and talented team into a high-performing unit—you should care deeply about the people.

  • An eye for trends, cutting-edge practices and a finger in the air to know which way the wind is blowing.

  • An empathy for users, clients, and team members that’s more than a buzzword.

  • A commitment to your craft—you should still be excited by words and pictures and finding the most compelling ways to use them to help build brands and digital experiences.

  • A comfort and interest with the mainstays of agency life—deadlines, juggling multiple projects at once, and wearing of multiple hats.

You Should Have:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar or adjacent role

  • Led a team of 3 or more people and/or experience

  • Experience with growing and scaling a talented and diverse team and supporting and overseeing the work it produces

  • Strong communication skills paired with great approachability to be able to speak and present to a wide group of people, from end-users to CEOs

  • Experience in a variety of copywriting formats, including long-form storytelling, short-form campaign executions, engaging website copy, video scripts, and more.

  • A design portfolio that ranges from brand identities, to digital executions, and everything in between.

P’unk Avenue does all kinds of work with all kinds of people.

This simple concept has brought our team together—but there’s so much more that makes us stay.

Flexibility:

Go ahead and get some fresh air - it might help clear your mind. We’ll be here when you get back. We believe in treating employees with trust and respect. Whether you’re heading out for a doctor’s appointment or flexing your hours to leave early for vacation, we’re confident you’ll get your work done.

Work-life balance

Speaking of vacations, you might have more of those in your future. At P’unk Avenue, employees start at 15 days off per year and can work their way up to 25 - and because of our generous sick policy, you’ll be taking vacation when you actually want it, not when you’ve got a migraine. We also close on December 23rd and don’t reopen until January 2nd, so you can ring in the new year from wherever you see fit.

Purpose

When you do as much work for non-profits as we do, you attract a certain type of human to the team. Whether employees are sharing fundraising links, organizing outreach efforts or taking advantage of our Volunteer Fridays, we’re working to help make the world a little better right beside you.

Connection

P’unk Avenue doesn’t work without you. You’ll be invited to come to the table as a collaborator, personally and professionally. Lead a Lunch and Learn about your favorite hobby, join our book club or fitness group, smoke us all in a game of 90s R&B trivia - make yourself at home.

P’unk Avenue thrives on diversity and we’re constantly seeking ways to improve, see through new eyes, and make our team more like our city: a thriving, daring, deeply different yet deeply interwoven community. We can’t wait to hear what you’ll bring to the team and how you’ll forever change us.
